The Jajpur District and Sessions Judge on Friday sentenced a 33-year-old man to 30 years of imprisonment for raping and trying to kill a minor girl two years back at village Fansilo under the Sukinda police station in Jajpur district. The court also slapped a fine of Rs30,000 on him. Judge JIban Ballav Das convicted Baruna Kumar Mohant of Fansilo village under Sections 376 (rape), 307 (attempt to murder) of Indian Penal Code and Section-4 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act on the charges of raping and trying to kill the 16-year-old girl on September 9, 2013.
