In another incident of man-animal conflict, a 35-year-old man was trampled to death by an elephant while he was sleeping in his house at Solodega village in the Tamada forest area under Bonai sub-division in Sundargarh district late on Tuesday night.

Lusa Oram was sleeping with his wife and children when the tusker broke into the house at around 12.30 am. After seeing the animal, the other family members managed to escape the house. However, Lusa came in front of the tusker, which lifted him with its trunk and slammed him to the ground, killing him on the spot.

Later, locals called up forest officials, who reached the spot on Wednesday morning and began an investigation into the incident.

Forest officials said compensation would be provided to the family members of the deceased soon as per the State Government rules.
