A 45-year-old man allegedly hacked his father-in-law to death at Sarasara village in Boudh district over a minor issue on Sunday.
An exchange of words had taken place between Ghundu Barik (72) and his son-in-law Pankaj Sethi in the morning over shifting of harvested paddy to a safe place in view of the possible rainfall due to the cyclonic storm ‘Phethai’.
Losing his cool, Pankaj struck Ghundu’s head with an axe, leading to the latter’s death on the spot.
Though the accused tried to flee the spot after the incident, locals chased and nabbed him and handed him over to police.
Pankaj was staying at his father-in-law’s house for the last 20 years.
