A man attempted suicide by slitting his throat after allegedly killing his wife over family feud in Soro of Baleswar district on Sunday.
The accused was identified as Sheik Khatun, a resident of Parmahal Sahi under the Soro Municipality. He is currently undergoing treatment at the District Headquarters Hospital.
According to reports, Sheik attempted to take the extreme step after eight months of his marriage following a heated argument between the couple on Saturday night. He slit his wife Baby Khatun’s throat with a knife, following which she died on the spot.
In the morning, he ran towards a religious place, just one km from his house, where he attempted suicide by slashing his throat.
Locals, who were watching the scene, informed the police about it.
The Soro police reached the spot and managed to prevent the man from committing the crime. He was rushed to the Soro Community Health Centre (CHC) in a critical condition. Later, he was shifted to the district hospital.
