Giving witness to police in a theft case cost a person dear. One Dhruba Charan Jena of Gaiduan village under Nikirai police station had allegedly robbed a women of Rs5,000 and a gold chain in the locality a couple of months back. A fellow villager Jasobanta Jena had witnessed Jena keeping the stolen money and gold chain in his house.
Consequently, Jasobanta gave witness on the theft case against Jena on the strength of which Jena was arrested.
However, after Jena was freed on Sunday, he attacked Jasobanta with the help of his relatives over the past grudge. Jasobanta sustained critical injuries and was rushed to a hospital for treatment. He lodged an FIR at the Nikirai police station. Acting on the FIR, Nikirai police arrested Jena, Debadas Jena, Debadutta Jena and Prahallad Jena. On Monday, all the four were produced before the SDJM Court, which remanded them in jail custody.
