A poor driver received a call on Monday from an unknown number that he has won Rs 25 lakh lottery and later he was told to send Rs 12, 200 to an account number towards GST, to get the whooping amount.
However when the victim went to his neighbour to borrow the money, he was told that the call was from a fraud.
Driver Chotu Laheri of Sitalpara area in Uditnagar of Rourkela got the call on Monday morning at around 11 am.
The caller identified him as an official of WhatsApp office at Delhi and explained how his WhatsApp number won the prize and what he had to do to get the sum of money credited to his account.
Since Chotu did not have the money he thought to borrow that much amount from his neighbourer and told him to give him Rs 13,000 on loan on urgent basis and when the neighbourer asked what he would do with that amount, Chotu narrated him about his lottery winning story.
After listening, the neighbourer told Chotu about the cheaters who were taking the gullible for granted and cheat them of money. He told Chotu to immediately block the numbers in which he had talked. Chotu immediately blocked those two numbers.
“When I went to borrow Rs 13,000 from my neighbourer, he explained me that these callers are cheats and not to send any money to them and therefore I did not send money to them as told by them and blocked those two numbers,” said Chotu.
