PNS

The Chandaka police here on Saturday night rescued a man from a farmhouse under the Khordha Town police area who had been abducted from Andharua in Bhubaneswar by two youths on Friday.

Police also arrested the kidnapper duo from the spot. The accused duo was identified as Pramod Mohanty of Puri and Santosh Patnaik of Nayagarh district. The victim was identified as Sadananda Behera.

A complaint in connection with the kidnapping was filed with the Chandaka police by Sadananda's wife, Rasmita.

ACP Prakash Chandra Pal said the incident was fallout of old enmity between Sadananda and the two youths. Sadananda had taken Rs 3.5 lakh from Pramod and Santosh two years back, promising them jobs in the Odisha police. As per the FIR, Sadananda was returning from market at around 9.30 am on his Scooty on June 9 when Pramod and Santosh, who were in a car, hit him from the rear. When he fell down, the duo forcibly bundled him into the car and sped away. Few hours later, Rashmita received a phone call from the two kidnappers, who demanded Rs 3.5 lakh ransom to release Sadananda. Following this, Rashmita approached the cops.

"A special team was formed and ahunt was launched to ascertain the whereabouts of Sadananda and his two kidnappers. Their phone numbers were tracked and they were traced to a farm house in Khordha yesterday night at around 9 pm," informed the ACP.

"During the interrogation, the two kidnappers confessed to their crime and revealed that Sadananda had duped them of Rs 3.5 lakh from them two years back. They told us that he has also duped many others by promising them to provide jobs," added ACP Pal.  Cases were registered against Sadananda and the two abductors and the trio was forwarded to court on Sunday.
