A mutilated body of a person was recovered under mysterious circumstances in front of the Bhanjanagar Post Office in Ganjam district late on Wednesday night. The deceased was identified as Kedar Patra (31) of Bhejiput.

Kedar used to sell clothes on the footpath in front of the LIC office in Bhanjanagar and is survived by his wife and two daughters.

The incident came to light after locals spotted the body of Kedar and informed his family members.

Brother of the deceased Muna Patra rushed to the spot and rushed Kedar to the Bhanjanagar hospital where he was declared brought dead by doctors. The body reportedly bore injury marks on ears, nose and neck, said sources.

Meanwhile, family members of the deceased alleged that Kedar has been murdered by his in-laws.

Sources said a few days back, Kedar had an altercation with his wife and in-laws over some family issues. Following the dispute, Kedar’s wife along with her daughters had gone to her father’s house at Gadapur village in Kandhamal district.

As per family members of the deceased, on December 24, Kedar had gone to his in-laws’ house to resolve the dispute with his wife and in-laws.

“My brother had informed me after reaching his in-laws house. On December 26, his friend Jaga Patra had also seen him at his in-laws place. His father-in-law Dukhishyam Patra and two brothers-in-law Kailash Patra and Prakash Patra had killed and thrown him on the road,” alleged Muna.

“Kailash uncle has killed my father,” alleged elder daughter of the deceased Nandini.

Meanwhile, police have lodged a complaint based on statements of the family members of the deceased and sent the body for post-mortem.

Further investigation would be carried out after receiving the post-mortem report, police said.
