Mahanga girl death: Women Commission registers case

PNS

In a significant development in the alleged suicide of a Class-X girl in the Mahanga area of Cuttack district, the State Commission for Women on Thursday registered a suo moto case in the matter.

The commission also sought a report in this regard from the Cuttack Rural SP within 15 days.

The girl was found dead under mysterious circumstances on June 16. It is alleged that her body was disposed of without the conduct of a postmortem.

The mystery shrouding her death deepened as a purported audio of telephonic conversation between BJD leader and former Mahanga block chairman Sarat Nayak and the mother of a Physical Education Teacher (PET) of the school went viral on social media.

The girl was allegedly in a relationship with the PET. She died by suicide after her family members came to know about the affair, reports said.

In the purported audio clip, Nayak was heard telling the teacher’s mother that the girl’s body was disposed of without postmortem to destroy evidence.

Police on Thursday went to the house of the PET and questioned him and his mother.

Latest report said Sarat Nayak was suspended from the BJD.
