With the river Mahanadi swelling due to incessant rains under the impact of a low pressure, people residing nearby its bank in Narsinghpur, Baramba, Banki and Athagarh are seen moving towards higher areas and flood shelters.

Several roads and bridges are flooded with rain waters disrupting vehicular movements in Ghodabar, Sompara, Similipur, Bilipada of Banki. Moreover, the flood water have gushed into the Bhattarika temple of Baramba, following which the deities have been shifted to the temple kitchen situated on a hillock nearby the temple.

The local administration has kept a strict vigil over the situation and advised people residing at river banks to shift to safe places along with their cattle.

Banki Sub-Collector Basanta Rout has said that since the water-level is lying beneath the danger mark, there is less possibility of high flood. However, the administration is ready to combat any kind of difficulty, he added.
