A large number of women and youths of the Maa Ghara Foundation under the leadership of Rutuparna Mohanty held a peace march from lower PMG to the Naveen Niwas on Monday demanding fulfilment of their five-point charter of demands.

The demands included justice to the Kunduli gangraped minor girl, to enforce the Orissa Prohibition Act 1956 enacted during the tenure of former Chief Minister Nabakrushan Choudhury and take steps to prohibit manufacturing, sale and consumption of liquor and drugs in the State.

The demands also included setting up a special court and form a probe committee to hear the pending cases of crime against women and children in the different police stations and courts.

later, a seven-member delegation including Sunita Gupta, Kadambini Tripathy, Jyoshna Mohanty, Padmini Singh, Kanaklata Sahoo, Dandapani Mohapatra and Sukanti Vakta met an official at the Chief Minister’s Office and submitted a memorandum addressed to the Chief Minister.

Rutuparna Mohanty said that after the discussions, the CMO officer took two months’ time to consider the demands.

“We have postponed the hunger strike after the request of freedom fighters Bhabani Charan Pattnaik and Dologobinda Pradhan, Trinamool Congress State president Aryakumar Jnanendra and Samata Kranti party founder Brajakishor Tripathy.”

The members threatened that if no action is taken on the demands within two months, they would resume their movement.
