PNS

Maa Ghar, working in the domain of women’s rights and safety, held a workshop for women representatives in Cuttack ahead of its plan to set up its counselling centres to help women in distress in 15 districts in the State. About 75 woman leaders participated who were taught about the laws and the Government schemes to help women.

Police DG (Intelligence) Abhaya, Supreme Court advocate Bul Bul Das, Pandit Trilochan Mishra, OCA secretary Ashribad Behera, Dr Hiranmayee Mishra and Cornel Kuldip Singh Gill joined as distinguished guests and discussed about women’s safety and security. Sangram Mishra and Manaswini Barik joined as trainers.

On the occasion, a seminar on women’s safety was held and it was decided to submit a 5-point charter of demands concerning the safety of women in State to the Government. Sunita Guptas, Sangita Karnani, Nilam Saha, Naveen Agarwal, Sangita Sharma and Sujata Dhanuka among others of the Maa Ghar spoke. Managing trustee Rutuparna Mohanty presided.

Notably, India has been the fourth most unsafe country in the world for women, where harassment, molestation, rape, dowry torture and murder of women are rampant. Odisha too has earned a dubious distinction in this regard.
