Amidst the fire in the Similipal Biosphere Reserve in Mayurbhanj district that is raging for more than a week and causing widespread concerns among environmentalists across the globe, an initiative by royal family members of Mayurbhanj in extinguishing the inferno has won hearts of millions.
A video showcasing the young entrepreneur Princess Akshita M Bhanj Deo taking part in dousing the wildfire surfaced in media on Monday. She is seen along with her mother Rashmi Rajyalaxmi Bhanj Deo dousing the flames in a small portion of the Similipal forest.
According to reports, the young royal collected data about the causes of wildfire after discussing with the locals. Akshita is said to have cancelled all her official programmes and visited the forest on Sunday after returning to the family’s Belgadia palace. During her field visit to the Talabandha area from Bhagirathipur in the forest, she succeeded in putting out the flames in a few portions of the forest. Notably, Akshita was first to bring the wildfire to the notice of the Government as well as environmentalists on microblogging site Twitter, following which concern poured in from across the world to save the biosphere.
