SEFAlI SUMAN

Music sans Raga and Tala can hold you for a day, but music with Raga and Tala will capture your soul forever,” Pandit Hari Prasad Chaurasia said this while interacting with school students at a flute recital programme here on Monday.

Pandit Hari Prasad referred to the ‘lungi dance’ song of the recent Hindi film Chennai Express and said such music cannot hold the heart for long unlike old songs.

The Hinduustani flute recital programme by Padma Bibhushan Pandit Hari Prasad was organised at the beautiful Vrindavan Gurukul here.

Opening the programme, internationally-renowned flautist Chaurasia recited an item with Raga Madhuvanti. This item was followed by the tune of Ahe Nila Saila and Kuanra Punei Jahana lo Phula Baula Beni with the school students’ voice.

Then, there were Raga Bhimpalasi and Raga Hamsadwani played on flute by Pandit Hari Prasad on the demands of the children. The last flute recitation of the evening was on Raga Khamaj. Eminent percussionist Pandit Subhankar Banerjee accompanied Chaurasia on Tabla in the memorable evening.
