The impasse over the wastes disposal in the capital city’s Bhuasuni dumping yard near Daruthenga continued on Saturday with a meeting between the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) and locals yielding no positive results.

Later, Mayor Sulochana Das said it was expected that the matter would be resolved within the next couple of days.

“The meeting we had today was a positive one. Soon, the stalemate will end,” said Das.

Daruthenga Sarpanch Tapan Kumar Chakraborty said, “As per the decision taken at the meeting, a village meeting will be held after two days. One thing is clear that there would be no bio-mining of the garbage for the time being.”

However, residents of Daruthenga said the BMC should hold a discussion with the villagers as a whole as well.

The residents have been up in the arms against the BMC dumping garbage near their village. They had even staged a blockade on the road, not allowing garbage vehicles to the yard.

Notably, the standoff started after the son of a local dhaba owner was mowed down by a garbage-laden truck.

Local MLA Suresh Routray, city DCP Prateek Singh, Corporators and senior BMC officials were present in the meeting.
