For last 11 years they were trying hard for converting the existing training period of live Stock Inspectors (lIs) from one year to two years of diploma course.

With the State Cabinet on Monday clearing the proposal to amend the Odisha Veterinary Technical Service Group C Recruitment and Conditions of Service rules, 1983, lIs will have two years of training and after the completion of training they will be given diploma certificates.

“For last so many years, we were trying hard to impress upon the State Government, however, now it has been granted,” said live Stock Inspectors Association principal advisor and Cuttack-Choudwar MlA

Pravat Ranjan Biswal, who came to thank the Secretary Fisheries and ARD Bishnupada Sethi for taking initiative to take up the issue sincerely.

“We are all grateful to the State Government for such an initiative,” said Biswal, who was leading a team of lIs.

Due to introduction of advanced technology in the field of animal genetics and treatment, the higher scientific knowledge was considered necessary for selection of candidates to the post of lI for better treatment of animals in the State. Hence the qualification of matriculation originally prescribed had been enhanced to Plus II Science.

Earlier the training offered to them was one year out of which ten months shall be spent on theory and two months on practical training in farms and veterinary institutions.

Now with introduction of extensive job chart meant for lIs, they are entrusted with major task of conducting treatment of animals independently by adopting modern and scientific technology covering

more than 70 per cent of the field work in rural areas of the State. Besides, they are also given the task of collecting user fees for the State coffer.

Hence, the role of the lIs in the treatment of animals and preservation of live stock and thereby providing livelihood support to the rural dairy farmers of the State is of paramount importance.

As such lIs are required to be trained properly to take up Artificial Insemination (AI) vaccination work and other methods of treatment of animals in a scientific manner in the light of technical innovations in the field.

Now, the State Government is going to introduce sexed semen to bring rapid change in milk production of the State.

Considering this, there is a need to enhance the existing period of training and the present course curriculum meant for lIs in order to upgrade their skills.

OUAT will conduct examination and will award diploma certificate after completion of the training.
