PNS

Despite enforcement of Section 144 CrPC in and around the Covid-19 quarantine centres in red zone in Ganjam district, tension erupted at a quarantine centre over liquor brought by some locals for a quarantined person.

The incidence was reported from Dadarakhol under Buguda block on Wednesday.

A total of 38 migrants, who have returned from different States, are staying at the quarantine centre at the Dadarakhol Upper Primary School. Defying Section 144, some youths of a returnee, a resident of Biranchipur village who is under quarantine along with others, reached the place with liquor.

Opposing it, alert villagers had arguments with the youths, following which the situation turned violent. Receiving information, the Buguda police rushed to the quarantine centre and dispersed the crowd.

Source said the quarantined persons also had clash with the villagers for their opposition to liquor and threatened them of dire consequences.

Notably, the district administration has clamped Section 144 at several quarantine centres prohibiting entry of relatives of quarantined persons into the centres.
