While deciding a 2013 murder case of an old man, Jharsuguda District and Sessions Judge Jharsuguda Manas Ranjan Tripathy has given life imprisonment to all the three accused on Thursday.
The case history reveals that one Kumar Dehuri (77) was staying in a house constructed by him over a Government plot letting some portion of it to some other families. Arjun Singh (35), Tikeswar Nayak (39) and Suresh Nayak (39) were also staying in the house as tenants.
For some reasons, the old man asked them to vacate the house. But instead of vacating, these persons started constructing another house over another Government plot nearby, which was objected by Kumar Dehuri giving rise to a dispute.
On the fateful day of March 18, 2013, they had heated exchanges with Dehuri, after which they killed him by setting him on fire putting kerosene oil on his body.
Following an FIR, the police arrested and forwarded all of the accused to court. The District Judge after examining all witnesses and evidences awarded life imprisonment to the accused along with penalty of Rs 5,000. In case of failure to pay the penalty, six months’ more imprisonment has been ordered.
