'let scientific researches safeguard environs'

PNS

While science and information technology (IT) has been making human life comfortable and beautiful, the scientific systems and processes, though adopted for desirable purposes, have created manifold environmental problems. Hence, scientists should work towards protection of environment and science and IT researches should be targeted in that direction.

Experts viewed this at the 19th Odisha Bigyan ‘O’ Paribesh Congress organised jointly by Odisha Environmental Society (OES) and the KIIT University here on Saturday.

They lamented that due to negative impact in environment, humans, animals and trees have been deprived of healthy and normal life. If the trend continues, then pollution, temperature, climatic change and imbalance in biodiversity would drive the world to destruction by the coming century.

The programme presided over by OES president Dr Sundar Narayan Patra was graced by Woman and Child Development and MSME Minister Prafulla Samal, KIIT University Vice-Chancellor Prof Hrushikesh Mohanty and CTTC Director Dr Sachikanta Kar, CRRI Director Dr Himanshu Pathak.

At the outset, Congress coordinator Dr Jayakrushna Panigrahi welcomed the guests.

On the occasion, four eminent persons, former BPUT VC Prof Damodar Acharya, Institute of Physics’ former Professor Choudhury Rajendra Praharaj, AIIMS former Dean Padmashree Prof Subrat Kumar Acharya and Sambalpur University former VC Dhrubaraj Nayak were felicitated.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Prof Biswabandita Kar. Around 500 representatives from across the State participated.
