The Shree Jagannath Temple at Puri should be brought under control of either the Revenue or the General Administration Department for better management,” said Gajapati Maharaja Dibyasingha Deb to a TV channel here on Wednesday.
Deb said the officers, who are taking charge of the temple administration, are mostly coming from the Revenue Department or General Administration Department. “If any of these two departments takes charge of the administration of the temple, I think the affairs of the shrine can be managed in a better way,” he added.
The Maharaja said the temple was earlier under the Endowment Department like other temples and mutts. But after implementation of a new law, there is no justification to keep the temple under the Endowment or the law Department after 1960, he observed. He appealed the State Government and servitors of the temple to hold a meeting after Niladri Bije for smooth functioning of the temple affairs.
