The Freethought Party of India (FPI) has strongly pitched for promotion of English education in Odisha.
Coming down heavily on the ongoing campaign for official use of Odia and also use of tribal dialect as medium of education of the tribal kids, the FPI said such campaign should not get any funding from the Government.
“Those who are having excessive love for Odia language or any other language other than English should act with their own funds,” it said.
The FPI also demanded scrapping of the language Act of 1954 dubbing it outdated.
On the contrary, the FPI said no money and time should be wasted in having the education in any tribal language or non-tribal language. It would be nothing but pure wastage of public money and time and energy. Besides, the local language and the local literature are not all free from mythological stories based on feudalism and a host of blind beliefs that run counter to scientific outlook, it said.
The FPI demanded that the members of the younger generation should be given quality education so that they can compete fairly and rise to the level of intellectualism.
