Mayadhar Nayak, a firebrand trade unionist, a prolific writer foresees the holocaust of a nuclear war in case a war breaks in between India and Pakistan. Nayak, known for his penchant for new ideas like “Economic terrorism”, “land to let”, has come out this time with a call to the denizens of the world to turn all war fields into lush green foliages, cornfields and granaries. Nayak’s numerous book publications are compiled in two hefty volumes entitled Mayadhara Mahasamagra and Mayadhara Upasamagra. ‘The Confessions of the tempest’, his forthcoming publication in English and Odia is his autobiography. Nayak, who negotiates time with the timeless, doies not waste his time in lobbying for academy awards as he is of the firm conviction that such awards and accolades are possibly in the hands of a cohort of pseudo litterateurs and mandarins of the Government. In an interview to The Pioneer, Nayak spoke to Sugyan Choudhury on his apprehension of a catastrophic diminution of the population of the globe incase a war let looses anywhere in the world, maybe between India and Pakistan.
As a writer, what according to you is the message of mother earthIJ
If the good old earth of ours wishes to decipher its history, let it not be smeared with a daub of tear and blood; may the dragged determination of the battlefield be metamorphosed into the dreams of lush green fields! This humanitarian heartfelt call is not only aimed at the armies of India and Pakistan only but also to all contemporary feudal military lords of the world. This also seems to be the hitherto-unuttered calls of the generations yet unborn to this world. Even today, the soul of ancient mother India is in quest of crumpled bone entities of those setting suns at the battlefield of Kurukshetra. It listens to the mournful elegiac strains of time passed, perusing the images of archaeological remains. Even today, the aftermath of cyclonic arms of the battle of Kurukshetra evokes untold pathos, pounds and bleeds one’s heart.
Would you give an account and the aftereffect of the Mahabharata WarIJ
River Saraswati meandered its course in ancient India. Now, it is a lost river. But then, the bank of the sacred river was once the cradle of the Vedic culture and civilisation. The large sprawling prairies between the two rivers, Saraswati and Brisadbati, constituted the battleground of Kurukshetra, which in turn was a part and parcel of the sacrosanct Brahmabarta. Now, this is placed in the map, being suggested somewhere three kilometre from the city of Thaneswar, positioned between Delhi and Ambala. Once upon a time in the Vedic Age, this was the place of assemblage for the saints and seers of India, who performed their religious rites from here through sacred fires. These Vedic altars meant for the sacred fires of the saints and seers turned into a battleground of the Mahabharata era. Thereafter, that battleground eventually turned into the ruins of a great civilisation. On the one side a clan of brethren belonging to future of India perished in a frightening family war while on the contrary an obnoxious unconquerable race of Yadavs totally perished indulging in an indiscriminate battle of their own. The whole of the Dwaraka city got dissolved and dissipated into the abyss of waterish oblivion soon after the all-powerful lord Balaram and lord Krishna, the incarnations of divine passed away. An immeasurably potent and powerful clan of Kshatriyas got lost themselves in oblivion as the inevitable consequence to the two diabolic wars. Kurukshetra has borne the brunt of the savagery and the civilisation in its crest through the ages, beginning from the pre-Mahabharata era to the historic Panipath and Tirori wars.
What about the relics of those wars and what’s their significanceIJ
The relics of all civilisations declaring their helpless existence in their bases, those bases in reality are nothing but the melancholy strains and tragic memoirs of fierce battlegrounds. History has created sorrowful chapters through oceans of bloodbath, tears and tempest of sighs depending on the decisive victories and defeats in the battlegrounds. Today, if any one questions these wornout relics of the past, they shall quip that once upon a time this place was agog with the continuity of human life and the crescendo of human activities in consonance with the meandering river here. The denouement in the drama in the human civilisation took place since the day man followed the dictate of instincts eliminating the wholesome backdrop of nature and accepting the battleground as yardsticks of decisive victory or defeat.
What do you think about an impending war between India and PakistanIJ
Pakistan had tested defeat three times in past in war with India. India resorted to a surgical strike on September 28, 2016 in retaliation of the Pakistani Uri terrorist attack on Indian forces on September 18. Now, people are left with apprehending through surmises and conjectures that a war between the two nations might begin in not-too-distant future. Both the countries are in possession of atomic bombs. There will be a catastrophic situation in the world in the event of atomic wars between the two nations without taking into account the consequences.
How do visualise the aftermath of an India-Pakistan warIJ
Experts apprehend that nearly a hundred atomic bombs may be deployed in case the war breaks loose between the two nations. The destructive striking capability of each bomb is somehow or other equal to bombs dropped over Hiroshima and Nagasaki in Japan during the Second World War. In the first sweep of the atomic war, as many as two crore and 10 lakh human lives will perish in twinkling of an eye. Nearly 50 per cent of the ozone sphere in atmosphere that protects the earth from the intolerable debilitating killer rays of the sun will be destroyed. This will devastate the entire green agrarian fields of large domains of Asia and alter the climatic conditions ushering in biting winters with an envelope of smoke and dust over the earth surface.
As a writer and a thinker, what do you foresee to be the results of a Third World WarIJ
Two hundred crore of population of the world shall perish instantly owing to acute shortage of food. The greatest lesson of history concerning the wars, confederation of great wars, world wars on the earth commencing from the mythical ages of Tretaya, Dwapar to the present days has been that of devastation and devastation, devastation only. Today, just as science has been instrumental to the development of the world, so also it has become instrumental for the catastrophic diminution of the global population. Crime for revenge, being aggrieved, if anyone side reaches at its wit’s end, the choice of the all unwanted war becomes imperative and inevitable.
What could be the driving motives behind the warsIJ
The principal motive behind all the wars that took place is either woman, wealth, power or policy of territorial expansion. It was not possible on the parts of the princely states to have their independent rule during partition. Kashmir has now become the bone of contention between India and Pakistan.
What do you suggest to end all wars from the worldIJ
If the mothers of all those world readers and the fighting soldiers shall unite then they must banish all wars from the surface of our good old mother earth!
