Concerned over the departure of senior leaders from the party on the eve of the elections, a section of party leaders on Thursday decided to shoot off a missive to party president Sonia Gandhi seeking her immediate intervention to stop the trend.
It was decided at a meeting held by several senior Congress leaders, including Congress Chief Whip in the Assembly Prasad Harichandan, Chiranjib Biswal, Ranjib Biswal and lalatendu Bidyadhar Mohapatra. The meeting was held at the residence of Mohapatra. “Desertion of senior leaders from the party and that too after blaming the State leadership does not augur well for the party. We will inform the high command about the current situation of the party soon. We will request the party leadership to take immediate steps in the matter,” said Harichandan.
“We have decided to prepare a blueprint to strengthen the party, which will be presented to the party high command, said Mohapatra. “We will deliberate over the issue as to why senior leaders are deserting the party before the elections,” said Chiranjib Biswal.
