The members of the Balangir Bar Association and representatives of different social organisations would stage dharna before the State Assembly on July 16 demanding establishment of the Orissa High Court Bench at Balangir.
This was announced by Balangir Bar Association president Promod Tripathy at a Press conference on Thursday evening.
Since September 10, 2018, the lawyers of Balangir have been continuing their agitation and cease work pressing for the demand. Since there was no response from the Government side, the members of the Bar Association apprised the issue to the Chief Minister and other dignitaries from time to time but in vain.
“As no option left, we have decided to stage dharna before the Assembly,” Tripathy said, adding that various other organisations and common people are backing the agitation.
“In the pre –Independence period there was a High Court functioning at Balangir. As per the criteria of Jaswant Singh Commission report, Balangir fulfils them all and it is the right place for setting up a High Court Bench,” opined Lalit Nayak of the Bar Association.
