The State Government has decided to distribute laptops free of cost to 15,000 Plus II pass-out students belonging to tribal, dalit and BPl categories from August 15.
This was decided at a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Tuesday. This programme will be launched simultaneously in all the 30 districts of the State. The laptop distribution will be completed by the end of September this year.
The Chief Minister said that laptops would be provided to students to bridge the digital divide at the Plus II level. Under this initiative, special focus would also be given to girls and students belonging to the SC and ST communities, he said.
It may be noted that this scheme had been announced by the Chief Minister after the launch of the State Youth Policy on April 6.
