PNS

Thousands of landless farmers, including women, began an indefinite agitation in front of the Indian Oil Corporation ltd (IOCl) plant hereon Tuesday protesting against the dillydallying attitude of IOCl officials in fulfilling their longstanding demands.

The farmers, under the banner of the Jamihara Ekata Krushak Manch, arrived at the plant in the morning and closed all its gates. Then, they blocked the road leading to the administrative block of the plant and staged a dharna preventing entry of plant officials. The farmers said that unless the plant officials fulfil their two major demands, they would continue their stir.

The two demands are permanent appointment of one of the family members of the landless farmers and action against the IOCl officials and staffs and the CISF personnel who allegedly misbehaved with contractual women workers.

Four platoons of police force were deployed near the plant site.
