A proposed project, establishment of a second Kendriya Vidyalaya (KV) in Baleswar, could see the light of the day after the State Government sanctioned the required land for advanced possession to the KV Sangathan (KVS).

Ten acres of land while was the requirement by the KVS authorities to establish the school, the district administration had identified patches under Remuna block , which are 6.29 acres under Chhanpur mouza and 3.71 acres land under Sanakia mouza . In the meantime, the KVS is planning to operate the second KV from a temporary building in Remuna from the current academic session.

The second KV would operate from a cyclone shelter in Remuna till completion of the school building at the earmarked site.

KV -I principal Bijayketan Pradhan said, “There is a possibility that the admission for the second KV would be made from this academic session. The admission would be from I to V for primary section having a strength of 40 for each class.”

“ We are waiting for clearance and notification from the Sangathan,” he said, adding that the advance possession for the land from the district administration has been taken.

While there have been demands from various corners for establishment of a second KV to cater to the growing need to accommodate the children since 2005, it got momentum since 2011.

The team members of KVS while visited a number of times to Baleswar in regard to the establishment of the second school, yet it was not materializing for some reasons and others.

District Collector Pramod Das said, “Even after identification of land as per KVS requirement, the project was not progressing as desired. Baleeswar MP RK Jena took  up the matter  seriously with the KVS authorities in Delhi as well in Bhubaneswar. His intervention paid off finally.”

“The second KV was a long standing demand of the district. The issue was pursued with the KV authorities and the State Government has approved the proposal for advance possession of land. The KVS now can begin construction,” said Baleswar MP RK Jena.

The KV Alumni Association which has been demanding time and again for establishment of the second KV in Baleswar expressed happiness over the latest development.

The first KV was established in 1972 when the population of the district was about 5-6 lakh and with the population touching about 23 lakh, the demand for second KV had gained momentum. While the intake each year is 120 in the class I, the current strength is 1,850.

The school while is mainly meant for the wards of the Central Government employees, it has great demand as Baleswar houses several defence establishments including PXE, ITR, EME, MES etc besides railway, postal establishments and PSU  banks and fuel companies.

The civilians too have a craze for the school. A team of KVS had visited the district in April last year.
