Land gets registered with fake legal heir cert

SRIKUMAR MAHANTA

A fake legal heir certificate has been used for registering a land a month ago in Tarbha tehsil under Subarnapur district. Interestingly, the Sub Registrar, Tehsildar and other tehsil officials could not get an inkling of it.

Sources said the land registration of Tirtha Rana and Surubabu Rana in Tarbha NAC had been executed a month ago on the basis of using a fake legal heir certificate. The fraud came to light recently when a person scanned the QR code of the legal heir certificate of the seller, which showed it was one Kalanidhi Sahu’s legal heir certificate.

Kalanidhi’s family was shocked to see that their legal heir certificate had been edited and used as that of Tirtha Rana and Surubabu Rana. Kalanidhi’s photo in the legal heir certificate was replaced with that of another person named as Jogeswar Rana.

Notably, before registration of a land, the Sub Registrar seeks a report from the Tehsildar regarding the land status. After that the Tesildar gives an order to the concerned Revenue Inspector to give him the spot verification report of that land. By getting the RI report, the Sub Registrar proceeds further for the land registration. The Sub Registrar has also the duty to check all the documents of the seller. But in this case, the Sub Registrar did not properly scrutinize the documents before proceeding for land registration.

“Some tehsil officials must be having nexus with the persons who made the fake certificate,” said social worker Mitabrata Mishra. He demanded a Vigilance inquiry into the whole issue.

Sub Register Suryamani Bhoi of Tarbha tehsil skipped a query on the issue.
