A three-member team of the National Scheduled Caste Commission, which is on a tour of the State to probe the Kunduli gangrape and suicide cases, on Monday met the victim’s family and held detailed discussions with them.

The team, which was accompanied by the Koraput district Collector and the Superintendent of Police, met the deceased girl’s classmates. later, they also spoke to the doctors who had treated the girl.

Speaking to media, NSCC Member Yogendra Paswan said, “It is a humiliating incident. It is sad that no culprit has been arrested in connection with the case so far. The family of the victim has pleaded for a CBI probe. But the State Government is opposing it. A CBI probe can reveal the truth.

In a related incident, the Congress SC Cell on Monday gheraoed the State Forensic Science laboratory demanding criminal cases to be lodged against the officials who allegedly tampered with the forensic evidence in the case.

Former MP Pradeep Majhi said an autonomous organisation like the SFCl has become tool in the hands of the State Government instead of trying to ensure justice for the victim. He said criminal cases should be lodged against the guilty officials.

Similarly Koraput MlA Krushna Chandra Sagaria said they would fight till the victim gets justice.

In reaction, BJD spokesperson Rabi Naryan Nanda said a SIT probe has been ordered into the issue. Unnecessarily, some people are politicising the issue.
