With the novel aim of protecting and empowering girl child, the Brahma Kumairs of Sambalpur lunched ‘Beti Bachao Sashakt Banao Abhiyan’ here. They organised different programmes on the occasion. On the first day, a mini marathon was organised where girls of different age groups participated.
On the second day, Brahma Kumari Dr BK Savita from Mount Abu inaugurated a ‘Sachetanata Rath’ (awareness vehicle) that aims at educating common people towards the importance of girl child in the society. The vehicle will cover five districts of western Odisha, such as Sambalpur, Bargarh, Boudh, Sonepur and Balangir and in 50 places of the region such awareness activities will be held.
“Girls since time immemorial are symbol of Sakti and Creativity. Hence, they should always be treated with respect and never be taken as burden for family or society,” said Dr Savita during the occasion of inaugural ceremony.
She further said that the Indian families worship laxmi, Durga and Kali early in the morning, but the same families are killing girl child from the womb through sex determination or by indulging in women atrocity in different forms including dowry torture. “This is nothing but total hypocrisy,” Dr Savita opined.
She also appealed to the people to respect law of the land and get involved to protect girls and give them their due rights.
MP Prasanna Acharya cited the examples of the great ladies like Rani laxmi Bai to Parvati Giri who had got immense contribution for the country. “But in this country now we have to lunch movements to save girls. This is nothing but a tragedy for the whole nation and a highly unfortunate matter,” Acharya said. What ladies had done for India, the same had not been imagined by the males. But the former remain neglected then and now, he lamented.
He further said that the rate of female foeticide is more in educated and developed region of the State and country which is nothing but an expression of the seek mind of the so-called civilized people. He also blamed some of the women who are also equally responsible for women atrocity in a family. Hence what is required is a change in the mindset and respect to girl child and women, Acharya suggested.
Sister BK Parvati, the sub zone in- charge of Sambalpur, greeted all the guests and coordinated the event.
