The Kuldiha wildlife sanctuary under Nilagiri block in Baleswar district was reopened on Monday for the tourists after a gap of six months.

“We expect more tourists to visit the sanctuary. More than 5,000 tourists, mostly from West Bengal, had visited the sanctuary between November 2013 and June 2014,” informed Kuldiaha sanctuary Forester Bijay Mohapatra.

The santuary’s tranquil atmosphere and ecology attracts tourists from across the country. Various species of wild animals like elephants, gaurs and burrowing pangolins are a special attraction here.

The Forest department has set up rest houses and rest sheds at strategic locations in and around the periphery of the sanctuary to provide accommodation to the tourists. The sanctuary covers an area of nearly 273 sq km.
