K'taka DSP suicide: CBI books Odia IPS officer

PNS

The CBI on Thursday registered a case of abetment of suicide against Odia IPS officer Pranab Mohanty serving in Karnataka and two others, Minister KJ George and IG AM Prasad, in connection with the suicide of a DSP, MK Ganapathy, according to reports.

The CBI lodged the case after the Supreme Court’s September 5 directive to probe the death of Ganapathy and submit a report within three months.

Ganapathy had hanged himself to death on July 7, 2016 in Karnataka’s Madikeri, about 250 km from Bengaluru. In a television interview given hours before his death, Ganapathy had accused George, Prasad and Mohanty of harassing him.

After his death, Ganapathy’s son Nehal named the three accused in his complaint filed with the Kushalnagar police station (near Madikeri) on July 10, 2016. However, the police had allegedly refused to register the complaint, reports said quoting the CBI’s FIR.

The State’s Crime Investigation Department (CID) had earlier given a clean chit to all the three accused citing lack of evidence against them.

After a plea by Ganapathy’s father MK Kushalappa, a CBI probe was ordered into the case by the Supreme Court.
