A 14-year old student, Sankar Dolai, of Jeypore died in a road accident on Friday night, as he was transporting milk from his hostel to Omfed.
He was engaged by the hostel authorities for this purpose, his parents complained. His companion Mina Suna was injured seriously and was under treatment.
A residential missionary school hostel is running in Kunturkhal village near Jeypore where free boarding and lodging are provided to the weaker sections. But at the same time, they are engaged in different works like marketing and transporting of milk, said many students.
School warden Khristadas Kar said he was absent in the school when the incident took place and passed the buck on a woman warden who was in charge at that time. The woman warden, however, denied she had assigned the deceased to fetch milk from school to Omfed, but agreed that the deceased had used her Scooty to transport the milk and on the way faced the accident.
Police are now investigating the whole thing, said Jeypore Sadar PS IIC Govind Chandra Burda. Notably, a few years back a student of the hostel had died of fever and the authority was blamed for showing negligence in the deceased’s treatment.
