The Kendrapara Sadar police on Tuesday midnight arrested accused Congress leader and Zilla Parishad Zone-31 member Arun Kumar Rout on the charge of escaping from police custody at the Reserve police station on February 20.
The cops also arrested his associate Birakishore Nayak for helping Rout in escaping. Rout fled in a car giving a slip to Rajnagar ASI Yudhistir Sahu, who was entrusted to keep a watch on him.
Acting on a tip-off, the police arrested Rout while he was moving near the Pattamundai by-pass road. Both were produced before the SDJM court on Wednesday and later remanded into jail custody as their bail pleas were rejected by the court.
Notably, Rout was arrested by Rajnagar police on February 19 for his involvement in assaulting medical in-charge Bhaktidipa Patnaik of the Rajnagar CHC and later destroying household items after forcibly entering into his house.
