Within a short span, the Kendrapada Seva Samiti (KSS), a group constituted in the social media , has won accolades by lending timely support to hundreds of helpless poor people in the district during their exigency period.

According to Subashis Mohanty, a member of the KSS, some light minded educated youths, including well-settled youths of Chandol and Balia locality, formed the KSS a year back aiming to provide their supportive hand to the poverty-stricken people.

“Being inspired by the adage ‘Service to mankind is service to God’, the youths of Chandol and Balia area formed a group in social media like Whatsapp and opened a page in Facebook by giving information that whenever any accident occurs, or a person needs blood or a poverty stricken family in distress condition needs any kind of help, then they or their relatives or neighbours just give them a message either on whats app or in facebook, so that the KSS members would able to co-operate the needy. When we started the group, only 27 members were in the group. But now it has touched to nearly a hundred,” stated Mohanty.

The members of the KSS group have been donating blood to the needy ones which has become a regular affair for the group members. The members of the group have been going voluntarily by spending money from their own purse to provide blood to the needy ones in Kendrapada as well as in the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.

Apart from this if a person meets an accident or needs medical attention, the members, after getting information from their group members, reach at the spot and provide help. Not only this, they also provide monetary support to the needy patients, stated president of the group Manoj Kumar Nayak.

“Our group provided monetary help to a couple of orphan siblings at Rajgada and also at Kusiapala area. Though the amount provided by us was a meagre Rs 5,000, but it was badly needed at that time as nobody reached there to address their problems. Even, one of our group members, Subashis Sarangi, an NRI, has started providing monthly aid of Rs 500 to the orphan siblings of Rajgarh whose parents died of HIV/AIDs,” told Manas Tripathy, a member.

“Recently, we have provided about 300 pairs of old clothes ,which were unused by us , to the hapless poverty stricken people of Kendrapada Township by opening a stall on the eve of Raja Sankranti. We have been raising our voice against corruption too and also fight for the rights of the poor,” added KSS president Nayak.

To spend money for the social work, all the members have been providing Rs 10 per day each by cutting the money from their daily expenses so that with this money some of the poor people would be able to get help from them, added Subashis Mohanty.
