In a novel way, local youths held an awareness drive on global warming at the Kakiriguma village market in Koraput district on Monday.

Holding various posters on global warming, the students of eco-village design education organised a public demonstration programme sensitizing the villagers about the ill-effects of climate change especially for next generation.

Highlighting the unprecedented rise in day temperature this year, the students explained the need for alternate ways of living going back to tribal tradition of respecting nature and cautioned the villagers not to be tempted by the new paradigm of development that affect the nature.

The students who are trained by the Siddharth Village dug pits on the roadsides for planting trees during rainy season. Explaining the impact of cutting trees and denuding forest, they called upon everyone to go for massive plantation to beat the heat.

Even one degree rise in temperature indicates the risk of extinction of 20-30 percent species, said Thread Siddharth Village Executive Director G John, who spearheads the Eco-village Movement in Odisha and India.
