Favouritism to Deepak Gupta, the prime accused in the `2,000-crore Uliburu mining scam, has proved the Jail Superintendent of Keonjhar dear. After getting the Vigilance inquiry reports, the Home department has suspended Jail Superintendent Amiya Pattnaik for negligence of duty.
Deepak Gupta had managed to stay out of the jail on health grounds after he was arrested and forwarded to court by the Vigilance police three months back. When the media exposed Gupta’s stay in a luxury hotel in Cuttack instead of being in the SCB Medical College Hospital, the Vigilance police made a fresh inquiry verifying the records at the Keonjhar Jail and hospital regarding the treatment of Gupta.
Recently, the Vigilance in their report submitted to the Home Department had raised suspicion on the conduct of the Jail Superintendent and doctors’ report basing on which Pattnaik was placed under suspension.Departmental action is also expected to be initiated against two doctors involved in favouritism towards Gupta.
