The conditions of farmers in Odisha are precarious. Their monthly income is Rs 5,112, the second lowest in the country. This is the “achievement” of the BJD Government in its 21 years’ rule, said the speakers at an executive committee meeting of the Odidha Pradesh Kissan Congress here on Wednesday.

From the mandis to irrigation, there is failure in every sector. The Government is insensitive and silent spectator even as the farmer suicides are regularly increasing.

The schemes announced by the Central and State Governments are only for publicity purposes and cannot ensure welfare of the farmers, the speakers said.
