An institute on the lines of the Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS), Bhubaneswar would be set up in Maharashtra soon. It would be known as lions Choice KISS Residential School and work for the upliftment of thepoor underprivileged tribal children of that State.

The foundation-stone laying ceremony for the purpose was held on Sunday at Jambha village in Vikramgad taluka of Palghar district, located 100 km from Mumbai.

The school is most likely to start its functioning from the next academic session.

Palghar is primarily a tribals-dominated district, where young boys and girls don't have access to good schools and are deprived of quality education. So, the KISS would lead the way by starting its branch in collaboration with the lions Mumbai Choice Foundation under the leadership of Sunil Patodia, District Governor, 3231, lions Club.

The infrastructure and establishment costs would be borne by the foundation, for which an initial investment of Rs 60 crore would be made.

As many as 5,000 underprivileged boys and girls would get a new lease of life through the school which is based on fully free, fully residential format.

KISS founder Dr Achyuta Samanta said, “For last five years, I have been thinking and planning to open a branch of KISS for the underprivileged children in Maharashtra. Finally, my long-cherished dream of empowering underprivileged children in Maharashtra is coming true.”

Dr Samanta also inaugurated a community toilet complex at Vartak Asahat, a village adopted by the lions Club of Heritage Galaxy and leo Club of Heritage Galaxy.

He was chief guest at the launching ceremony of book 'Unique Bharat' by Bhagwat Parivar, Mumbai.
