Suspecting that engineering student Mrunmay Prasad Baral (21) was murdered, his family members and student friends at the Gandhi Institute for Technology (GIFT) staged a road blockade by putting the body here at Master Canteen Square demanding an impartial inquiry into the case.

The irate students also demanded due compensation Mrunmay’s family members.

Mrunmay along with 60 of his classmates had gone on a study tour to Visakhapatnam on January 24. Though all other students returned to Bhubaneswar by the Vizag-Bhubaneswar Intercity train on January 29, he did not come back.

Unable to trace Mrunmay, the family members tried to contact the college authorities but in vain.On Monday, the Brahmapur Railway Police informed the deceased’s kin about a dead body which they had recovered from the railway tracks. The body was identified as Mrunmay Prasad Baral.

“All the students reached Bhubaneswar. Only my son was missing. We approached the top college authorities, but in vain. They did not have a clue about the whereabouts of my son. We demand proper enquiry into his death,” cried Manoranjan Baral, the father of the deceased studnet.

On Monday evening, the family members and the irate students protested in front of the college demanding an impartial investigation of the alleged murder and due compensation to the family.
