Killer gift parcel: Raipur courier under cops' lens

PNS

The Balangir police are still clueless in their investigation into the Patnagarh parcel bomb explosion in which software engineer Soumyasekhar Sahu and his grandmother Jenamani were killed and his wife Rimarani suffered grievous injuries.

The Balangir cops with help of their Raipur counterparts during probe have ascertained that the Skyking courier, which had sent the parcel as a gift from Raipur to Patnagarh for delivery, did not keep the required information about the sender or the contents. The courier did not keep the sender’s address or did not open and check the contents as required per the rules, said sources.

Soumyasekhar’s father Rabinda Kumar Sahu said on Monday, “The courier agency Flyking flouted all the rules. This matter should be thoroughly investigated.”

However, a Raipur police official said the CCTV installed in the courier agency is defunct for a long time. But investigations are on; and they hope to unearth the clues about the sender soon. This has brought the role of the courier agency employees under the scanner. Now, the police are waiting for the injured Rimarani to recover to record her statement.

Meanwhile on Monday, Patnagarh MlA and BJP legislature Party leader KV Singh Deo wrote letters to Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik urging them to order a probe by the National Investigative Agency (NIA) or by the CBI to crack the case.

Singh Deo stated that the impact of the parcel bomb was so great that the entire house developed cracks. Such an incident had never occurred in Odisha. It has caused terror in the minds of the people of not only Patnagarh but also the entire State.
