Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) president Prasad Harichandan on Friday demanded that Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and Health Minister Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak resign on moral grounds for the Government’s failure to provide an ambulance to poor tribal Dana Majhi, who was forced to carry his wife’s body on his shoulders for 12 km to his village in Kalahandi district.
Pradesh Youth Congress activists burnt effigies of the Chief Minister and the Health Minister in protest against the negligence meted out to Dana.
Addressing a Press conference, Harichandan said a fact-finding team of the Congress would visit to the spot on Saturday.
“Dana Majhi had requested the DHH authorities to provide an ambulance to carry the body of his wife Amanga Deo who died of tuberculosis. The authorities didn’t provide the same as Dana was a poor tribal man,” alleged Harichandan.
“Both the Chief Minister and the Health Minister should resign on moral grounds,” he demanded.
