Despite all her efforts, inability to propel development activities in her ward due to noncooperation of the Keonjhar Municipality authorities, Ward-15 Councillor Sangeeta Nanda has resigned from her post.
While submitting her resignation on March 6, Nanda has brought allegations about various corrupt practices in execution of development works and demanded a probe into the mis-utilisations of funds.
After the municipal elections in 2013, the BJD formed the council with Meena Majhi as its Chairperson. But due to resentment among council members, she lost her post in a no-confidence motion in 2015 and Independent Councillor Saroj Sahoo has remained in charge of Chairman since then.
The State Election Commissioner suspended nine Councillors who had voted against Meena in spite of party whip on the basis of a petition filed by her. Finally, the suspended Councillors, including Sangeeta, were reinstated after receiving High Court orders after a year.
“In the last few council meetings, proposals for development in my ward were repeatedly rejected by the Chairman and the Executive Officer who have intentionally tried to ignore my ward,” alleged Sangeeta.
A petition of Sangeeta received by the Prime Minister’s Office was also redirected to the State Chief Secretary for action, but no avail. Repeated complaints to the Vigilance DGP to investigate financial corruptions in the Municipality have also gone unheeded, she further said.
When contacted, Municipality Chairman Saroj Sahoo denied the allegations.
