The people of Kendrapada district are jubilant after leading steelmaker Arcelor Mittal Nippon Steel India on Thursday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Odisha Government to set up an integrated steel plant in the district.

If sources are to be believed, the proposed 12 mtpa integrated steel plant will be set up with an investment of Rs 50,000 crore.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and CEO of ArcelorMittal Lakshmi N Mittal were present during the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at Lokaseva Bhavan at Bhubaneswar.

The people of the district thanked the CM, the PM and the Petroleum and Natural Gas and Steel Minister for taking steps for setting up of the steel plant in Kendrapada district. “The dream of Bijubabu is going  be fulfilled as Kendrapada which has no industry is going to get a steel plant. It would definitely boost the economy as well as would address the unemployment issues of the district," stated the intellectuals of the district.

It may be noted here that Union Petroleum and Steel Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, during his  visit to the Bhitarkanika National Park on January 24, had stated that Kendrapada was going to get benefits from PM  Modi’s mission of Purbodaya. He had also hinted at efforts to build a steel plant in the district.
