PNS

A critically sick patient died as a 108 ambulance failed to reach in time at his village due to lack of proper road in Kendrapada district.

Octogenarian Dolagobinda Swain of Barabatia village under Kaupada gram panchayat of Derabish block on Monday had fallen sick. His granddaughter Nikita Swain gave a call to 108 ambulance to come to her house for shifting the sick man to hospital.

However, the 108 ambulance, after getting a call, only reached a nearby village as it got stuck in a muddy road just 500 meters from the sick man’s house. And, by the time Dolagobinda was brought near the ambulance with the help of fellow villagers, he had died. 108 Amubulance pharmacist Ayushman Behera declared the old man brought dead.

Villagers alleged that despite several appeals to the authorities, the road to their village was not being repaired. When contacted, BDO Saroj Kumar Das said he would send JE of the Derabish block to take stock of the road for converting it to pucca road.
