'Keep 80% jobs for State degree engineers'

PNS

The Odisha Degree Engineers’ Association (ODEA) on Friday demanded appointment of local engineers in 80 per cent of the vacant posts in all industries in the State, priority in appointment to State engineers while signing MoU with various industries and safety to the women engineers at workplace.

At a press meet held here, the association said about 70,000 engineering students, after getting degrees from about 110 colleges in the State, are moving every year to outside States for jobs as they are not getting jobs in the State-based industries. Although the industries are obliged to give appointment to the local engineers while signing the MoUs, in practice, they are not adhering to it, alleged the association. On the contrary, engineers from outside Odisha are getting a better edge than the locals in getting jobs in the State-based units, the association blamed.

Among others, ODEA president Partha Sarathi Muduli, working president Biswa Prakash Swain, Siva Prasad Panda, Gyana Ranjan Swain, vice-president Jagarnath Baliarsingh, Arun Agarwal and Jagarnath Kanungo were present.
