Kanpur dam project may be delayed further

PNS

For the success of any project, proper coordination between Government departments is required, but unfortunately, this is lacking in respect of the execution of the Kanpur irrigation project here.

When the district administration resumed the project stalled for 18 months by the local people, it was hoped that the project work will start with full speed but having seen the arrangements, it appear that it will take many more years to be completed than its targeted time.

The project costs have, meanwhile, escalated to Rs 2,200 crore from initial Rs 431 crore. If proper efficiency is not shown by the contract agency SEW, and coordination is not maintained by different agencies of the Government, the project will be further delayed.

When the contractor had engaged only one JCB machine on Thursday, it deployed only two JCB machines and four tractors on Friday even after warning of Keonjhar SP Rajesh Pandit.

When contacted, Chief Engineer, Kanpur project, Kulamani Biswal admitted that there were glitches but they would be got over soon. He assured that the project would be completed by December, 2019 by mobilising every resource.
