The bodies of a woman and her daughter were cremated on Wednesday, four days after they died mysteriously, at Manapada village in the Rajnagar area of Kendrapada district.
The deaths of the duo triggered an outrage among villagers of Manipada. Earlier in the day, the irate locals gheraoed the Tehsildar, IIC and BDO, demanding arrest of the persons involved in an alleged double murder caseReports said, a woman identified as Pramila Nath, wife of Patitapaban Nath of Manapada village, and her daughter were found dead under a mysterious circumstancs.
A local source said that Pramila was missing since September 19. The next day, her body was found in a river. Later, the body of her daughter Satyapriya was also recovered in a village pond on the same day.
The autopsy report of deceased daughter revealed that she was eight-month pregnant.Instead of cremating the bodies following postmortem, the villagers kept those in front of Patitapaban’s house alleging murder of the duo. Based on the allegation, the police detained one person for interrogation.
But as no arrest has been made in the case so far, the locals denied to hand over the bodies for cremation and demanded immediate arrest of the culprits.
