Justice MM Das to head chit fund probe panel

PNS

The State Government on Wednesday appointed Justice Madan Mohan Das to probe the multi-crore chit fund scam in the State after the demise of Justice Radha Krushna Patra on January 28. The one-man Commission of Inquiry headed by Justice Patra was constituted on July 9, 2013 to hear the complaints of the duped depositors and take necessary steps for return of their investments. The 63-year-old newly-appointed one-man commission head Das was a judge of the High Court from November 2003 to February 2013 after a long 29 years of practice in the bar.

The commission has received as many as 10 lakh affidavits, of which only six lakh have been scrutinised by now. The Government, seeing the gigantic tax ahead of the commission, has provided facilities for digitalisation of the affidavits, which is in progress now.
