Jumbos on Routkela outskirts; people scared

PNS

The presence of a herd of ten elephants at the Vedavyas fairground since Saturday has panicked locals, forest official and police.

Sources said the forest officials had spotted the herd at Samjore near Kansbahal and while trying to disperse them to the Saranda jungle, Jamunadhipi villagers came their way and pushed the herd to the fairground.

Jamunadhipi villagers said they knowingly drove the jumbos towards the city areas as they want a permanent solution to the menace they are facing for a couple of months from the Government officials.

However, Forest officer PK Dhal said all arrangements have been made to drive the elephants into the jungle on Sunday night. The police have cordoned the area from the Vedavyas Chowk to river side, he informed.
